Stalk of the Town

In which Seattlest contributors divulge their weekend plans and disclose their favorite things to BBQ.

Friday afternoon means it's time for the MADCAP Hill Farmer's Market at Madison and 20th, 3pm - 7pm, so MvB is off to find ingredients for his mad scientist smoothies. Saturday at 4pm The Real Dirt On Farmer John plays at the NW Film Forum (free if you RSVP). MvB grew up on a farm, and you'd think he'd be over it by now, but apparently not.

James is headed to Portland this weekend for his in-laws' annual Cosmopolitan Lounge cocktail party. He may try to work in a visit to Powell's and Counter Media. Favorite thing from the grill? Steak. Rib-eye or New York strip, medium rare (closer to rare), served just a bit of salt and jus. Yum.

Matt will probably spend the weekend studying this Blazen Hazen video. He'll also try to get to the Faire Gallery Friday night for the exhibition of hilarious work by local cartoonist and frequent Stranger contributor Jessixa. Saturday he'll try to confirm if the MVB was right about what's available at the Central Cinema. Avoid any BBQ parties associated with this event in Portland.

Jack's heading to El Corazon tonight to check out The Fever (what was that? A cowbell joke? That's so awesome! We haven't heard that before!). The next day is shaping up to be a nice little Saturday, for he and his wife are going to Home Depot for a few things, maybe Bed Bath & Beyond too. Not sure. Don't know if there will be enough time. Sunday: Jack will likely join the rest of the humanoids flocking to witness Tom Hanks ruin The DaVinci Code.

Courtney will be heading to the Garage Friday night to attend the going-away party for a friend moving to Australia. Guess we know what said friend will be putting on the barbie once she gets there...On Saturday she'll be mountain biking at Skookum Flats near Mt. Rainier, hopefully followed by a dinner of grilled flank steak and as-par-a-gus, her favorite summer BBQ combo--she just got asparagus in her Pioneer Organics delivery. Yum.

Ronald is going to play serious foodie games this weekend: Food Lust 2006 on a farm in Fall City, and a forum on on genetically modified foods at Le Pichet. But first, a traditional family birthday party: eat-your-age-in sushi. You don't do that in your family? Pity.

Proving that there's no sporting event too inconsequential for him to drive 30 minutes to see, Seth will spend Saturday watching the opening rounds of the state 4A baseball tournament in Everett. That's after a Friday evening spent in the company of Simon Schama, the aggressively erudite historian. He's not really going to Everett to watch baseball. He's going to Everett to watch Travis Snider of Jackson (Mill Creek) High hit. Snider's rated the #3 hitting prospect in the country. Saturday night he has a bunch of parties to go to--two going-away parties, and one Bonnie and Clyde party. He may not make all three. Sunday, he expects to hear that Mike Hargrove's been fired. What's better on the bbq than chicken? Chicken that's first been marinated. That's what he likes. Word.

His girlfriend is in Europe, and she ordered David S. not to go out in public unchaperoned. So he will watch some basketball, attend his brother's going away party, and grill some Chicken Apple sausages.
