A Walk through BLVD

mini-DSC02061.jpgWhen it comes to art, Seattlest is in the "we know what we like" camp. We're not unversed in art theory or history, but when you cut to the chase, we want to look at pretty pictures. That's one reason we're so fond of Roq La Rue and now BLVD -- Kirsten Anderson and her cohorts have an eye for pretty that resonates with us.

Hordes of people came to BLVD's opening last Friday night. We took Little Miss Seattlest with us and she had a grand time, although she was far more excited by the people than the Groundswell pieces. (She was more taken with the Travis Louie paintings at Roq La Rue, because they came with stories we got to read to her.)

Check out other photos of the evening by Mahalie, artist Robert Hardgrave, and Kirsten herself.

Our five favorite pieces from Groundswell:
1) Sylvia Ji's "Garden of Sin" -- if we'd had $2500 on us, there would've been a little red dot by this painting's name before the end of the evening.
2) Robert Hardgrave's pieces, especially "Fire Release"
3) Joshua Petker's "3 Girls"
4) Warren Dykeman's "Youth and Gasoline"
5) Joshua Krause's "Ah, the divine matching of sensibilities (with a little help from those pesky neutrinos)" #2

Were you there? Which pieces did you like? (You can check it out this weekend if you missed it.)

Wow--Garden of Sin is fantastic. There was also some pretty good stuff at the Greenwood/Phinney art walk over the weekend...especially at 826 Seattle.

Is there any post that James can't slip a picture of his kid into?

I liked the painting with the baby.

I liked the stuff at 826 too, but then I'm a sucker for rockets and spacey type themes. I bought $1 worth of art there.

Where are the photos of the Greenwood art walk? Take cameras, people!

And I'm pretty sure I'll keep my daughter's picture away from any post having to do with strip clubs, heavy drinking, or asparagus.

OK, I'll bite: why asparagus? The phallic shape? The dangerous, pointy end?

I'd like to see a post that has to do with strip clubs, heavy drinking and asparagus.

I thought the art next door was pretty good too!

I used to work with Warren Dykeman at an old dot com back in the Clinton era.

Whoops, link rot! My BLVD opening photos are HERE.
