Intiman Snags Tony Bling

bowling.jpgWe may have to break ourselves of the habit of calling the Intiman a "plucky local theatre," now that they've won the 2006 Regional Theatre Tony. (They're feeling modest, so you have to dig around the Intiman site a bit to find a mention. Ha! We kid because we love.)

The Award honors a regional theatre company that has displayed a continuous level of artistic achievement contributing to the growth of theatre nationally. It is presented at the recommendation of the American Theatre Critics Association, and it comes with a grant of $25,000 from Visa, U.S.A

Regarding the "continuous level," the Tony folk highlight Robert Schenkkan's The Kentucky Cycle, Joan Holden's adaptation of Barbara Ehrenreich's Nickel and Dimed, and Guettel & Lucas's The Light in the Piazza (which won six Tony awards last season). Some may say this Tony attention is related to Bart Sher helming the Intiman, but we believe it's more of a lifetime-achievement Tony for Laurence Ballard.
