Cheese, Glorious Cheese

bleu.jpgOn Saturday and Sunday, the Pike Place Market was host to the 2nd Annual Seattle Cheese Festival. The weather cooperated, so it ended up being two beautiful days of mass cheese consumption. Seattlest personally ate more cheese in the span of an hour than most people should ingest in a lifetime. Oh but it was worth it...

And now we can relive the lactose-filled memories, thanks to Flickr. Just a cursory examination has turned up scads of great photos of the fest, including some excellent cheese pornography.

User sarahparah has a great photoset, featuring some delicious cheesewheels. mimolette.jpgMeanwhile, Jeff Carlson captured an image of this lovely bright Mimolette, which resembles a cantaloupe more than a cheese. Culinary Fool has pictures of other interesting cheeses, like this braided string cheese and this creamy goat cheese covered in herbs and juniper berries, which our companion described as "tasting like Christmas."

Focusing more on the atmosphere of the fest, J. McPherson has a couple good shots of the crowd, as well as the requisite pile o' fromage. *Sara*'s got some more crowd shots and a whole buncha toothpicks.

Looking at these pics has us hungry all over again. Good thing the next cheese festival is only 52 weeks away.

  • Way to start her young, James.

  • We went on Sunday afternoon. Almost-8-month-old Simone had her first cheese -- organic cream cheese from Sierra Nevada. And we scored, among other things, a $3 wedge of mimolette worth at least twice that because "we can't take zem back to France."
