Sexists Rally Against Sonics

bon_voyage_vintage.jpgThe Sonics absolutely insane idea to have the city pay for a remodeled Key Arena is surprisingly finding opposition. So much so that a rally is currently taking place in which concerned citizens are throwing a send off party for the team.

A group calling themselves ‘Fine Then Leave’ is hosting a bon voyage rally for the teams at City Hall. There are going to be speeches, songs, and cake.

The group, which we assume was named by someone in a less-than-healthy relationship, points out that the money could be better spent on schools, the homeless, and a class teaching Seattle drivers to use a four way stop.

They even have a website where you, like many others on both sides of the issue, can leave your reactionary opinions.

After reading many of these posts we were struck by two things:

1) People seem to have no problem with the Sonics leaving, but what about the Storm? They would go as well, yet there is no anger being directed at them. There are not just attacks on the green and gold, but the two other professional male teams in town. We can't but feel that this amounts to sexism.

2) There are ALOT of sadly misinformed people here -- mostly women -- who don't understand the first thing about sports.

Before we spend money on another sports complex maybe we should spend some time exploring these problems at community forums. This way we could better understand each other, especially when it comes to men and asking for directions. Yeah, the ladies know what we're talking about.
