We Eat Pub-Style Humble Pie

mini-DzlItem268.jpgLast night, Seattlest came in a humbling-but-deserved third in our regular trivia contest at the Old Pequliar. Ten teams were playing, so we won $10 (double our entry fee), but the first-place team raked in $70. Seattlest is there most Tuesday nights, so if you've ever got an urge to give us a run for our money, show up by 8:00.

We had to let the rest of our team handle a round on their own, though -- because we wrote round 2, Seattle trivia. Do you know the answers to these questions? Seattlest's team got 9 out of 14 points.

1) Who's the current president of the Seattle City Council?
2) Five current Fortune 500 companies are headquartered in Seattle. Name them. (1 point each; lose a point for any incorrect answer)
3) According to the Fortune 500, what's the largest company headquartered in Seattle?
4) What's the tallest building in Seattle?
5) What name did Denny party settlers first give to Seattle?
6) What country did Fremont's statue of Lenin come from?
7) "The Emerald City" became Seattle's official nickname in 1982. What nickname did it replace?
8) The first public art museum in Washington state opened in Seattle in 1927. What was it?
9) The first Dick's Drive-In opened in 1954 in which Seattle neighborhood?
10) Seattle-born entertainer Rose Louise Hovick is better known by what stage name?

Answers after the jump.

1) Nick Licata
2) Amazon.com, Nordstrom, Safeco, Starbucks, Washington Mutual
3) Washington Mutual
4) Columbia Center
5) New York (or New York Alki)
6) Slovakia (or Czechoslovakia)
7) Queen City
8) The Henry Art Gallery
9) Wallingford
10) Gypsy Rose Lee

How'd you do?

  • Actually, Charley made the call on accepting alternate answers. I just made sure to tell him that it'd had earlier names.

Re: Wallingford -- Dick's themselves call that restaurant their Wallingford location. And I think I-5 is the U-District/Wallingford divider.

  • Suz

We had to restrain Jacob from submitting an official complaint on that question.

And where does Wallingford begin and U-District officially begin/end anyway???

  • Jacob

The (only, truly) correct answer to #4 is The Columbia Center. The "Bank Of America Tower" name was officially (and legally) dropped by the building's owners more than a month ago. How do I know this? Because I work in the very same tall black building for a little book company mentioned in question #2. Fortunately my team got both answers correct at Tuesday's trivia night.

  • Seth

    4!

But it's now "Bank of America Tower" not "Columbia Center."
