Last night Seattlest went to see Madeleine Albright speak at Town Hall, even after our friends ditched us for other reasons. Albright was in Seattle plugging her new book "The Mighty & the Almighty,” in which she examines the role of religion's influence on politics in this crazy messed up world.
The first thing we noticed about Albright is how tall she is, by our estimation nearly seven feet. The conversation was moderated by Michael Kinsley who didn't ask questions so much as speak for a few minutes and then stop, at which point Albright would respond to the points he was making.
Albright began by speaking about the current situation in Iraq (apparently there is some sort of conflict) and addressed the Bush administration claim that they are following a path that Clinton laid out.
The second half of the conversation included readings from her book, and focused on the role of religion in world politics. Her general feeling is that religion should be used for the common good, which we of course agree with; however, looking back on history we can’t help but think fat farting chance.
Then the whole thing digressed into a discussion on Barry Bonds and the perfect low fat salad dressing.
The audience question portion of the question pretty much ignored Albright’s book, with concerned citizens asking about various “problem areas,” in the world.
For us the highlight of the evening was Albright making a funny regarding the president’s problem pronouncing the big words. At this point we all pretty much know that W isn’t very good at talking, or being a president for that matter, so after seven years the jokes about his mispronunciations have lost some of their zip. However, there is something special about a former Secretary of State zinging the most powerful man in the world about his problem. And you just know that Colin Powell has some better one-liners.

Tuesdays are Muppet Days

It's totally Madeleine.
