Mini-chocolate on chocolate cupcakes rock my world. And they're at Cupcake Royale. They are small enough to have with a cup of coffee or after dinner, and not feel "stuffed," also, they were the one "treat" I allowed myself while dieting--- and I still lost 10 pounds. Eating one is like the flavor equivalent of a damn good french kiss. This won't make sense until you eat one of them. Oh, and the lemon drop cupcakes? Sooo good. My mouth is watering just thinking about them. Top pot is good, and I'm a big fan of their raspberry-filled doughnuts, but doughnuts don't fill me with joy (and frosting!) like cupcakes.

I knew Top Pot would come out on top. Yay! As for the sbux connextion, i have it on good authority that Howard Schultz himself went into the Madrona (not Magnolia! Where is the Mag CR- are you thinking of the one next to the Majestic?) and bought some cupcakes and then COPIED them at his store. The evildoer! BTW, indie pastry, including the mini pies you crave, Joel Franklin, at www.sugardelights.com Pie versus Cake? why not have both?

Ah, screw 'em both. Mighty-O is where it's at. Royale's servings are too small and the frosting is way too sweet, and Top Pot? Might as well drink a bucket of grease. But there's nothing better than a French Toast donut from Mighty-O.

every type of top pot donut i've tried has disappointed me. they're way too greasy & leave me feeling sick for an hour after. at least with cupcake royale (oh, for devil's food to be more than a seasonal), i can have one or two and go about my day feeling perfectly satisfied. i will agree, though, that the odd cupcake there can be a bit dry. having gone to college in the south, krispy kreme original glazed will always remain my first choice. since i live in wallingford, i satisfy my morning sugar cravings by walking over to mighty-o. it's not a bad compromise.

Krispy Kreme? The best thing about Krispy Kreme is their marketing department--how you manage to con a city of people to camp out in line in anticipation of a doughnut store opening--a doughnut store opening--I'll never know. Plus, I can't look at an original glazed without remembering a certain Sex and the City episode. Forever ruined.

IF CR's cupcakes were as good as the one's at Magnolia, there would be less cupcake hate. Those people make a good cupcake. Krispy Kreme better than Top Pot? That's like saying McDonald's is better than Dick's! Top Pot doughnuts are made with love. It's palbable. Krispy Kreme--good, but no surprises. Dull.

I heard that if you try to reheat a Krispy Kream doughnut it turns gaseous. Top Pot all the way.

This debate sounds similar to another ongoing debate: Cake vs. Pie. (Pie always wins, by the way.) But that begs the question, when will we finally get Mini-Pies in this city? (some call them "tarts") Then this whole question of cupcakes and donuts will be moot.

I respect Krispy Kreme -- they've perfected one doughnut archetype, the light, fluffy, semi-liquid sugarbomb. I tried to love KK, but when I was finally able to eat one fresh from the vat and discovered I liked it even less than the cold ones people brought into work, I realized KK doughtnuts just weren't my thing. I prefer my doughnuts with heft, and Top Pot does that to perfection. Also, I prefer "doughnut" to "donut."

I love Krispy Kreme! Way more than Top Pot, but alas, not an option. I'm pretty much going to choose donuts over cupcakes any day.

What is the matter with you people. I didn't want to say this, but KK is better than Top Pot. Top Pot are too dense and too heavy - I eat half of one and I need to drink a pint of water and my lunch is spoiled. I want my donuts light and airy so a strong breeze can hover it in front of me while I eat. Top Pot donuts almost have gravity.
