If the forbidden love of Brokeback Mountain and that innuendo-laden Oscar montage whetted your appetite for homoerotic Westerns, you're in luck. For the next three Thursdays, Three Dollar Bill Cinema proudly presents Tough Love, "a film series on queer desire in the Wild West" at the Northwest Film Forum. The lineup is as follows:
Thursday, May 4th, 7 pm: JOHNNY GUITAR (1954)
A sell-out when we showed this film years ago. Not surprising when you remember the tension between the commanding Joan Crawford and her equally butch nemesis played by Mercedes McCambridge--and the sparks that fly among the men in Crawford's stable.Thursday, May 11th, 7 pm: RED RIVER (1948)
The classic "gun play" scene where Matt (gorgeous Montgomery Clift) and Cherry (John Ireland) stroke and admire each other's piece is reason enough to see this film on the big screen.Thursday, May 18th , 7pm: LONESOME COWBOYS (1969)
A rare opportunity to see this classic Warhol film (not available on video). A funny and erotic spoof on the Western genre, with "just about as much genitalia & sexual union as I AM CURIOUS."
Each film will be preceded by an introduction, in order to point out all the gayness contained therein. As if you could possibly miss it.
Tickets are $9 general admission, $7 for Three Dollar Bill Cinema Members. Available here, at all Ticket/Ticket locations, or via phone (206-325-6500) or fax (425-450-3839).

Friendly Folk-Pop for the Kids: Hey Marseilles at Vera This Saturday

Queer subtext or no, Johnny Guitar is an awesome, awesome movie.
Married or no, James is totally gay.
Um, Audrey, just because you're not my type doesn't mean I'm gay. At least, not totally.
