A chance like this doesn’t come around very often. Jane Eaglen, world-famous and Seattle-favorite Wagnerian soprano, is giving a masterclass at UW this afternoon.
Seattlest apologizes for the late notice, but we urge you, if your schedule allows, to get your ass over to Brechemin Auditorium in the Music Building (7N on this map) on the UW campus at 3:30. Ms. Eaglen will work with four School of Music voice students, and afterwards will hold a Q&A session.
If you’ve never been to a masterclass, you may be in for a treat. At best, the teacher brings out something amazing in each student, and their performances change right before your eyes and ears. At worst, the most the students get out of it is a resume boost.
Seattlest has never heard Ms. Eaglen teach a masterclass, but we do hope she falls into the former category. (And based on the video snippet we found from a masterclass Ms. Eaglen gave at New England Conservatory, we think it will. Anyone who mentions the physical strength needed for singing has it right in our book.) At the very least, we hope she sings a little – a voice that large would be thrilling in such an intimate setting.
