Once, Seattle had an afternoon paper. It was called the Seattle Times, and had sensible columnists like Emmett Watson who knew how to write a sentence. We can only assume it has no connection to the shrill, idiotic Seattle Times that now appears in the mornings. Anyway, the afternoon Times was there to tell you what happened while you were at work. Since it's gone, Seattlest steps into the void with our daily afternoon news roundup, "All the News."
Microsoft has a new search site. With Windows Live Academic Search you can peruse academic papers about computer science, electrical engineering, and physics! No thanks, Redmond, we'll stick to using Google to find risque photos of Jessica Alba.
The Mariners activated outfielder Matt Lawton today, who we hope will generate much-needed offense. He'd been suspended for the season's first ten games for a positive steroids test. The M's did not, as expected, send OF Joe Borchard to AAA. They sent down a pitcher instead. So, for now, the M's are going with 11 pitchers.
The new Weekly's online, and there's a fascinating piece about Mike Webb, the former KIRO radio host who's suspected of committing insurance fraud. There's also an article from a guy who says we should build a new arena for the Sonics because he likes them a lot. Very convincing argument.
