We See U

voyeur.JPGA little while ago, we did a little data mining of the Missed Connections on Craigslist, to check Seattle's romantic pulse. Frankly it was feeble and thready. But we were hoping that with the onset of spring, things have picked up.

It wouldn't be fair to pick on CL MCers again so soon, so this time our unofficial data mine was the Stranger's I Saw U listings. 208 men saw women, 148 women saw men, 40 women saw women, and just 26 men saw men (or bothered to post about it).

Again, Capitol Hill is cruisy as all get-out, but Ballard and Fremont replace downtown and Queen Anne as runners-up. Starbucks got 5 mentions, and Vivace 7, but Joe Bar crushes with 18 posts! (Is it something in the crepes?) And in answer to the eternal question, Pike or Pine, the answer is Pike, 10-0. By neighborhood, the action (or lack thereof) breaks down like so:

Ballard - 15 posts; Belltown - 4 posts; Capitol Hill - 16 posts (including variant Capital Hill spelling); Central District - 0 post; Downtown - 9 posts; Fremont - 12 posts; Greenwood- 1 post; Greenlake - 2 posts; Leschi - 0 posts; Madrona - 0 posts; Magnolia - 1 post; Queen Anne - 6 posts; University District - 9 posts (with variant U-District spelling); Wallingford - 1 post; Wedgewood - 0 posts; West Seattle - 5 posts

Further searching reveals: 37 posts are bar-related (excluding Joe Bar posts), while only 4 mention "eating." Coffee leads tea, 55-13. 31 posts have to do with people described as "hot," 41 "beautiful" and 8 "stunning." 40 mention the bus, 53 a car, and *sigh* only 10 bicycle/bike. Here in highly literate Seattle, only 2 posts mention the library, and 8, books. A sad state of affairs indeed. Most startling, "piercing" was used in descriptions just twice.
