Guy's name is Barry, camel's name not recorded. Location is across from San Juan Vineyards. One theory of how camel got there explained by Culinary Fool in a blog entry over the summer.

--Remember the UW professor who died tragically? No, not the one who was eaten by a crocodile. That was Richard Root. This one got wiped out by logs falling off a truck on Hwy. 101. His name was Anthony Qumar, and the state believes that the truck he happened to be behind was overloaded with logs and going too fast. The driver, Garland Eugene Massingham, has been charged with vehicular homicide. Leonard Logging, which owned the truck, is in trouble too.

--Sprawl has its consequences, and one of them is more treated poo (known by its euphemism, "effluent") right into Puget Sound. Groundbreaking on the absurdly-named Brightwater regional wastewater treatment plant, which will serve fast-growing North King County, is tomorrow. For the sake of the Sound, please, eat healthy, Woodinvillians!

--NY Mets pitcher Brian Bannister, son of early-80's Mariner pitching star Floyd, won his first major league game today. And he had two hits, the first two of his career. One was a double!

Leo, I'd recommend the MLB audio package (although, now that Gary Cohen's on TV, you may want to get cable or MLB and spring for Extra Innings). Or you could adopt the Mariners, but I wouldn't recommend it. (When I lived in NYC, I adopted the Mets, but it was the happy 97-2001 years)

Wow! Isn't it a weird coincidence that the last name of the guy that owns the truck is Logging?

Incidentally, what options are there for a Mets fan moving to Seattle in two months?

I hear camels that drink coffee don't spit, but instead take huge explosive farts that can kill drivers on nearby roads. And yes, that is a Tully's cup.

  • We met the camel on a recent trip to San Juan Island. Our B&B lady told us her name is Mona, which is of course the best name for a camel ever.
