Yankee Legends Looking at Griffey's Back

8833jraa.JPGWith his fifth-inning home run today, former Mariner Ken Griffey, Jr. left a couple of Yankee greats in his rear-view mirror.

The homer was the 538th of Junior's career, one more than Mickey Mantle, and 12th on the all-time HR list.

And, by driving himself in, Griffey tallied his 1,538th RBI, one more than Joe DiMaggio and 31st on the all-time RBI list.

Griffey hit 398 of his home runs, and drove in 1152 of his RBIs, as a Mariner (no thanks to Harold Reynolds and his three consecutive years of sub-.340 OBPs at the leadoff spot).

Said our friend upon hearing this news: "He NEEDS to come back and finish his career in Seattle! He can DH till he's 45."

Agreed. We'd happily trade any current Mariner player (excepting Felix Hernandez) to get our childhood hero back to Seattle.

    Even Ichiro?

I would gladly contract David's herpes if it meant Griffey'd come back. Besides, then I could join him at all those herpes-friendly parties!

Yeah, but we would have Griffey back.

  • And then everyone would get your herpes.

If the Mariners got Griffey back I think I would hug everyone in the city.
