Looks Like A 10-Guitar Monday

mini-TTA.jpgIf you're facing the prospect of a rainy Monday night in Ballard, lucky you. The rest of us have to figure out transportation to Tuning the Air, the "weekly music series for large guitar ensemble." Begun in 2005, the ensemble offers the thunderous chorus of 10 guitars and the nimble fingers of the people who play them. (Here we're using the word "thunderous" solely for hyperbolic effect. The 45-minute show is acoustic.)

Every Monday at 8pm, they gather at the Seattle Circle Performance Space in Ballard. And in fact, they gather in a circle: the audience sits on cushions in the middle. The P-I went, so why not you? The style varies from classical to jazz to rock inflections, and there's a certain amount of improvisation, too. You never know what you're going to get. And that's okay, isn't it? You're no rigidly conformist conservatarian.

Admission is free, with $5 donations accepted if you're overwhelmed and feel the need to press money upon someone. The Seattle Circle is located in the north annex of the Trinity Methodist Church (though they're not affiliated with any particular method), at 6512 23rd Ave NW. Directions and a map are here.
