Towards a More Emerald City, World

HomeBanner2.jpgThere were a bunch of events in Seattle last week that revolved around climate change that may not have reveresed the affects of global warming all on their lonesome, but were definitely the kind of thing we'd like to see more of. Most of it revolved around the mayor's report on climate change that he presented along with the greenest presidential never-was kicking around, Al Gore. Officially it's the "Mayor's Green Ribbon Commission on Climate Protection" and it's here on the web.

Eric de Place of NEW has a short report on it here:

Trying to recap his talk in a blog post would be an exercise in futility. You know the drill by now anyway: collapsing ice sheets, shrinking glaciers, spreading diseases, hurricanes, and floods. The punishment that climate change promises to inflict is downright biblical in scale--a punishment that will fall especially hard on the poorest and weakest on earth. And so it was good to hear Gore's booming declaration that arresting climate change is not a political issue, but a basic moral one.

We'd love to show you a clipping of the report here, but, alas, PDF rears it's ugly head. You'll have to search it on your own for the most poignant two paragraphs. Here's the executive summary and here's the full deal.
