Capitol Hill Shooting Spree

maprep.jpgSomeone walked into a Capitol Hill party at 7am this morning with a number of guns and shot a bunch of people. Six 20-somethings and the gunman are dead. The Seattle Times is reporting that the incident occured at the 2100 block of East Republican - An officer in the area heard shots fired and responded to the address where he confronted a man armed with a shotgun. The man then shot himself.

Lots of witnesses were present and Seattle police are interviewing those. If you were at this party please comment or email Seattlest. KOMO is reporting that the shooter was from out of the area.

Update: Seattle Times is reporting that the house was the scene of an after-party for a "zombie rave" that was held last night. We wonder if they're talking about Sakura-Con's Masquerade Ball.

Update: Nope, it wasn't the cosplay ball. There was a "better off undead" party at the Capitol Hill Arts Center last night, according to the Stranger. The Seattle Times says that one of the party-goers left and returned all in black to do the shootings and he may have been a visitor to the house previously.     Maybe I was a bit harsh, I'll try to explain my comments a bit. The shootings happened early Saturday morning, right? Most "pro" blogs like Seattlest and the Stranger Slog don't publish on weekends, but yesterday and today the Slog was breaking new information and providing commentary on the shootings constantly, all day both days! They knew how important the story was and that was reflected in the Slog. I was disappointed that the ONLY important thing to happen in Seattle this weekend got one small post on a site (this one) that purports to be an authority on the city, as Gothamist is for NYC.



    I realize the deck is kind of stacked against Seattlest... All editorial staff at the Stranger (even some interns) have posting access to the Slog, and being an actual newspaper they definitely have better ways to get information. But it's not about quantity of info - I just wanted to see that Seattlest cared! That's all. But there's a great summary post up on the main page right now so all is well.

  • Jesus Robin. It is a closed crime seen and SPD is not going to leak any information. What do you want blood spattered crime sceen photos? My God..



    I have to wonder what the local chapter of the NRA would have to say about this slaughter.

    Wow, you guys really blew it covering this story. Did you read Gothamist during the NYC blackouts or the transit strike? They had constant pictures, quotes, and stories on both - actual REPORTING. When seven people DIE in Seattle, Seattlest gives us a couple paragraphs, and then fails to post anything while the Stranger blog, the Times, and the Weekly are all reporting important new information. Dropped the ball! Hope your coverage picks up once the workweek starts. Maybe Gothamist LLC doesn't pay for overtime blog posting.
