There are some Seattle sports fans who complain that our teams don't get enough national media attention. Yeah, we know it's true, and there are times when it irks us a bit, but we understand. Seriously, have you seen where we are on a map? Ultimately we really don't care because know it doesn't matter.
There is one national publication, however, which has been giving our local squads a lot of attention recently, The Onion.
They gave Dave Niehaus a new catch phrase, followed Shaun Alexander's road into the record book, had the Seahawks covered in their recent Super Bowl preview and even reported on the aftermath of the big loss. Now, they have gone to print with this story on Seattle's favorite Japanese right fielder, 'Ichiro: 'The Best Part About Playing For My Country Was Not Playing For The Seattle Mariners.'
Not to be out done the Seattle PI came up with their own hilarious story: Betancourt getting a look at No. 2.
Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha…What? You mean, that is a real story? Oh. Well, it's still funnier than Sideline Chatter.
