Quantcast

inches, miles... so passé

metric-street.jpgThis coming Monday 27th, Seattlest will be swilling gin & tonics at our fave music venue, the Showbox, and steeping ourselves in the cleverly multifarious sounds of Toronto band, Metric.

Metric have released two albums thus far: 2003’s Old World Underground, Where Are You Now? and 2005’s Live It Out. Seattlest was only recently exposed to them however, and we have to say, it's rare for Seattlest to come across an album, let alone two albums, wherein every song is cherished. Easily one of our new favorite bands.

Lead by the capricious Emily Haines with her arresting vocals and authoritative command over new wave synth, Metric have a knack for simultaneously setting new boundaries and then breaking them from one song to the next. Just when we think we’ve got them figured out, the next song begins and blows us another direction. On tracks like On A Slow Night, and The Police And The Private, Emily pacifies us, even charms us. Then, tracks like Dead Disco and Hand$hake$, grab us, shake us, get us jumping til we sweat.

It remains to be seen whether or not Metric’s digitally registered intensity will carry over to their live show, but Seattlest has a good feeling about this one.

If you haven’t heard Metric before, give them a listen and then join us at the Showbox. Tickets are still available.
