Husky Women Can Shock the World Tonight

david-goliath.jpgOn Saturday, in their first appearance in the NCAA tournament since 2001, the Husky women won a thriller, beating Minnesota thanks to some gutsy rebounding, timely shooting, and hopelessly incompetent Gopher coaching.

That's two Husky tournament wins in one day! Woof!

Tonight, the Huskies play the second round against #1 seed LSU. If the Huskies win, it will be the upset of the tournament. Even the Huskies know it, reports Jayda Evans in the Seattle Times:

"Everybody knows we're the underdog and they're like, 'Whoa! You've got LSU,' " UW junior forward Breanne Watson said. "You kind of hear it in their voice what they're saying. But we're approaching this game like it's any other game, and we really think it's winnable. If we play hard, we have a shot."

The biggest task, according to the Times, will be containing LSU's senior guard Seimone Augustus, who will probably be the first pick in next year's WNBA draft. There's also the large matter of 6-6 center Sylvia Fowles, who averages a double-double and can dunk.

It will be a David vs. Goliath matchup tonight, and you can watch it live at 6:30 on ESPN2.

The Husky beat LSU in the only previous meeting between these two teams. If the Dawgs do not believe losing is a done deal, then nobody else should, either.

These are women who rise to a challenge - witness what they did that New Year's night when Kayla Burt went down.

And whether they win or lose, these are women who are to be admired for who they are as people, not just the game they play.
