Seattlest isn't a native, but we've been here long enough to remember when Inga Muscio wrote for The Stranger (which is more than their own online archives can claim). We're pretty sure it's been at least 10 years. According to her website, she now lives in Portland -- or at least, that's where her PO box is.
Much more famous than her stint at the Stranger, however, is her provocatively titled 1998 manifesto Cunt: A Declaration of Independence.
Why do we bring this up now? Well, Muscio's book has been in the news again lately. More precisely, it's been in a news photograph lately, by accident, in the Baltimore Sun. Which lead to this apology:
A photograph published yesterday with an article about the court-martial of a guard at Abu Ghraib prison showed a book cover that contained an obscenity. The obscenity went unnoticed during editing and should not have been published. Publication of the photo violates The Sun's guidelines. The Baltimore City Paper blog has more info, and a close-up of the offending photo.
Muscio's website includes a quote declaring that "you've read her on the C-word that was once taboo." We're pretty sure that's an optimistic use of the past tense, at least as it applies to Baltimore.

Tuesdays are Muppet Days

Hey, she could have had a Bush or a Dick in her hand, but of course only this picture would be offensive...
Oh Baltimore, such a cunt.
Ah, this would be the same Inga Muscio who once ranted through an entire theatre review in "The Stranger" complaining about the fact that a play entitled "A Couple Of White Chicks Sitting Around Talking" didn't have more women in it.
Inga was certainly a memorable contributor. The Stranger should really get her old columns online.
Inga was a neighbor of mine at the Biltmore during the latter years of the past century. She was never a quiet, retiring woman; it's nice to see she hasn't mellowed too much.
