New Mariners Commercials Are Out

They may not have a winning tradition on the field, but the Mariners do have a tradition of winning commercials.

There was the famous early 80's Jacket Night commercial, in which Mariner Tom Paciorek, asked to do a commercial with no script and a single prop (a pair of funny nose glasses) ad-libbed that it was "Funny Nose Glasses night..."

Announcer: No, Tom, it's Jacket Night. Everyone who comes to the ballpark gets a free Mariners jacket.

Paciorek: Then what am I supposed to do with 30,000 pairs of funny nose glasses?

Announcer: That's your problem, Tom.

They actually ended up having Funny Nose Glasses night the next year (see above), which was the highlight of the 1982 season.

There were the knight commercials in the late 80s, the brief appearance of Skippy Nordquist and, for the past few years, a set of "irreverent" commercials released each year in spring training. They haven't all been great, but a few are gems--usually the Edgar Martinez ones. There's a new batch this year.

We like the Missing K's and the Ichiro one (which actually gave us goosebumps). Watch them all--and vote for your favorites, if you are in to such things, here.
