What will the weekend bring? Why, the new 4A state basketball champion, of course! So the staff of Seattlest picks our favorites in today's critical semifinal game between Franklin and Curtis. Also, they mention some other stuff they are interested in.
Michael van Baker is tired (possibly from his recent bare-knuckled fight with former Knick Charles Oakley, seeking revenge after Oakley stole his girlfriend. He predicts a Franklin victory.
Once Garfield is eliminated from contention, high-school basketball is dead to David S. On Saturday night he will see 'Capote.' He will then spend all of Sunday speaking in his best Truman Capote voice. While he will think he is being hilarious, everyone around him will think he is being a total jackass.
Friday Donte is going to do part two of his Ultimate Soldier Training at UW . Saturday, he'll commune with his inner hippie at Vegfest before an impromptu Meatfest at Steel Pig BBQ. Sunday he'll close out the weekend at the Seattle All-Breed, Agility & Obedience Dog Show. Curtis, 73-70.
Tonight, Audrey will be at the NWFF to view the critically-acclaimed tale of a boy and his cheetah. It will remind her of the cheetah-like speed of Curtis guard Isaiah Thomas, who scored 45 points against Mt. Tahoma in last night's quarterfinals. Tomorrow night, it's good eatin' followed by a music and art spectacular.
Jack will be heading to Fremont's Ballroom tonight to say farewell to a friend. Saturday, Jack will be stealing his neighbor's adorable cat because they don't take care of it, and taking her to the vet for a checkup, and likely some shots. He will then spend the rest of the weekend nursing a bleeding heart, and lamenting over the new vacancy in his wallet, which is partially due to betting on Curtis.
Jeremy will be watching the season finale of Battlestar Galactica then celebrating Curtis' triumph over Franklin (84-78) with the rabid high-school hoops fans at Changes in Wallingford.
Margaret will be driving down to Portland with her sister tonight, where they just might wake up and smell the City of Roses. (Or stop off at the Tacoma Dome for exciting boys state basketball action. Go Quakers) Then it's back to Seattle for Saturday night's production of Così fan Tutte. Hopefully Sunday will find her on the couch simultaneously trying to figure out how to pay for grad school / planning a recital / catching up on all the TV she missed this week.
Don will be watching the impossibly young and talented Arctic Monkeys on Saturday Night Live. Both Don and the Arctic Monkeys think Franklin's fabulous freshman, Jordan Siva, will come up big against Curtis.
Matt Silvie thinks Negativland's first live public performance in more than five years, entitled "It's All in Your Head FM," is worth the $18 admission price at ConWorks, Friday and Saturday at 10pm. The St.Patrick's Day race on the viaduct this Sunday could also provide some hilarious spectacles, but the question is: Can anyone wake up early enough to see it? Apparently there will be lots of celebratory drinking at Safeco Field afterward for anyone who likes to get their drink on before noon. He'll also be ruminating the tragedy of a youth misspent reading comic books instead of watching sports, and thus being unable to predict the Franklin/Curtis game, or have a conversation with heterosexual men.
Gina will be trying her hand at domesticity and double entendre--she is, after all, a master baker. No? Fine. She'll be attempting the two-day process of making croissants aux amandes while pondering life, love and the acceptable auf wiedersehen of Daniel Vosovic. It will be auf wiedersehen also for Curtis, she thinks.
Courtney will be packing her mountain bike to ship it to Oakland, CA for next weekend, when she'll be riding with the pro LUNA Chix mountain bike team. She is so excited about this that she can't really think about anything else she is supposed to be doing this weekend, such as watching real sports like basketball.
Tonight, James is stopping by Roq La Rue for the Triple Threat opening. Tomorrow night, he and his wife are celebrating their anniversary with dinner at Lampreia. And Sunday night, he just might make it to Central Cinema to see Richard Lester's greatest film, "Curtis vs. Franklin, an epic matchup for the ages that Franklin pulled out in overtime on a last-second Venoy Overton three."
Seth will watch the entire 3A and 4A boys tourneys on On Demand. Thanks, Comcast! You saved me a trip to Tacoma! Thankfully, the 3A boys will be at Key Arena next year. He predicts a 11-6 double overtime win for Franklin, punctuated by a Jordan Daisy dunk from half-court. Probably won't happen, but think how brilliant he'll look if it does.

That's right. I said a Franklin victory. Though you have to give that Thomas kid credit.
