43 things we love about Wallingford

wallingford.jpgSeattlest has taken our fair share of potshots at Wallingford. And it's true: we hate Wallingford NIMBYs, the Friends of Gasworks Park are most assuredly not our friends, and any effort to become suburbia-in-the-city earns our scorn.

But there are things about the neighborhood that we love. Here's 43 of them:

1. Bella Cosa Foods
2. the Guild 45th
3. Wallingford Cleaners
4. the park at the Good Shepherd
5. Open Books
6. Vandewater Books
7. F-ing DICKS!!!
8. Illegally climbing on the Gasworks late at night
9. Musashi's
10. Mandarin Room in Moon Temple
11. Goldies
12. the teryaki place that's taking suggestions for their new name but laughed at Seattlest Dan's "Teryaki Xtreme-O" suggestion
13. Julia's
14. proximity to 99
15. those gray areas where you can't tell if it's Wallingford, Fremont or Greenlake

16. May Thai cuisine
17. O'Shea's
18. that parade they have down 45th in the summer
19. Jitterbug
20. Boulangerie
21. Second Story Bookstore
22. Erotic Bakery
23. Comics Dungeon
24. Bizzarro
25. the staircases at Wallingford Center
26. the high ceilings at the old Food Giant
27. the mysterious Lincoln High complex

Meanwhile, on 43rd in Wallingford, absolutely nothing is happening.

  • However, Merlin Mann named 43 Folders (not related to the Robot Co-Op sites) after the number of manila folders in a tickler file.

    43 is in the air.

  • Dan

No magic actually. It's just the number the local robot co-op guys use for their sites. http://www.robotcoop.com/

  • I wasn't knocking Wallingford and Fremont. I used to live in Fremond back during the dot-com days.

So what is magic about the number and terms "43 things".

  • Margaret

Jake, I was just joking -- sorry if it didn't come across that way.

Seriously, we invite anyone with more things they love about Wallingford (or Kitsap, for that matter) to post 'em here.

  • Dan

the #44 bus is a great one. slow as hell and very frequent.

I'd like to add the park at the corner of sunset, I think and pacific that consists of just one table. Where are the "friends of the table"?

  • Seth

Open invitation to Jake--give us 43 things you love about Kitsap County.

  • Margaret

Jake, we didn't "forget." Clearly, a list of 43 items is limited.

  • HW-99 is the dividing line between Fremont and Wallingford. I used to live in Fremont right by there.

Dear God I miss Dicks. It was one of the hardest point of moving to Kitsap.

They do have decent erotic cakes in Wallingford.

You forgot close proximity to the U District and the 45th bus line that has a buss every five minutes or so.
