Entercom Accused

Payola: In the music industry, the illegal practice of record companies paying money for the broadcast of records on music radio is called payola, if the song is presented as being part of the normal day's broadcast.

Rumors of payola in the radio industry have been brewing for a while and have gotten more attention since NY's Attorney General began an investigation of the recording industry. Finally today the New York state Attorney General Eliot Spitzer (who'll probably be NY's governor soon) brought a lawsuit against radio giants Entercom Communication.

Who cares about payola in New York, you say, when we have such great radio in Seattle such as KEXP, The End, The Mountain, etc. The last two of those are Entercom owned stations. Here's their full Seattle spread, including AM:

KIRO Newsradio 710 AM
KBSG 97.3 FM
KMTT 103.7 FM, The Mountain
KISW 99.9 FM
100.7 FM, The Wolf
KNDD 107.7 FM, The End
KTTH 770 AM
