After we discovered the library's new "1 week for DVDs" policy, Seattlest sent feedback expressing our displeasure and requesting that multi-disc DVD sets, at least, be left with a 3-week checkout period.
Tamara from Borrower Services responded:
Unfortunately at this time the catalog records for DVD sets (multiple discs) in the system are not coded in such a way as to allow for the assignment of varying loan periods. This means that everything classified as a DVD will now be assigned a one week loan period by the system.Curses! Foiled by OCLC limitations! (Thanks for the gracious response, Tamara.)At this time there are no plans in place to repackage multiple DVD sets.
However, Library administration has assured us that they will watch this closely over the 6 months following the April 1st change and carefully monitor the impact once the change is implemented.
Well, we know how we'll be spending our next 6 months at the library: complaining every time we can't make it through a complete season of some television show in a week.
