Lotta Things to Covet
Seattlest first fell in love with Lotta Jansdotter's minimalist, organic designs at our favorite new-ish downtown store Urchin. We've been coveting her handmade purses, linens, and placemats for months, but we always tend to destroy such items and hence should be relegated instead to obtaining them from Target.
Recently, we were trying to find some unique thank-you cards at one of our favorite stores for stationary, Kinokuniya Bookstore adjacent to Uwajimaya. There we spied a gorgeous Jansdotter stationary set for $12, a much better value than most of the nearby thank-you cards.
And then just yesterday, our favorite style soothsayer, Maggie at Mighty Goods, recently pointed to a boxed set of postcards from Jansdotter on Amazon.com. There we also found other items with her same quirky, nature-inspired themes, including sticky notes, journals, address books, and stick-on labels. It occured to us that she has been up to more than just textile work, so we finally hunted down her website and nearly drowned in the overwhelming yumminess.
Jansdotter's work plops visions in our head of a young 9-year-old girl with long summer-bleached hair running through dried-out backyard fields, picking aging flowers to take home and scatter around her room. We know, we know, sentimental clap-trap but rarely do we see "design" that is so simple yet immensely evocative. Oh the Scandinavian-ness of it all!
