The guy who killed Krisopher Kime in a rowdy Mardis Gras crowd in 2001 got resentenced yesterday just in time for this year's Fat Tuesday. He was convicted of felony murder in 2001 but that got overturned in 2002 because the Andress decision determined that an assault and, whoops, a death isn't murder if there isn't intent to murder. The Andress decision caused a big uproar because it allowed for the overturning of hundreds of convictions in the state of Washington. Anyway, this time instead of felony murder 2 it's second-degree manslaughter and the sentence is lighter by five years.
Hey, party on, though. It's Mardis Gras in NOLA Northwest. The P-I has an article today about how Pioneer Square "yearns for Mardi Gras party of the good ol' days," when the cops were observers, sexual harassment was plentiful, the beatings were deadly and the Jager flowed like Coors. Ok, does the decline of Pioneer Square Mardis Gras have more to do with police presence in recent years or the dispersion of the frat set to Fremont and Belltown?
Another Mardi Gras is upon Seattle, but in Pioneer Square, some say it is a pale cousin of the Fat Tuesday celebrations of past years."Every year, Mardi Gras in Pioneer Square has become less and less of an event," said Craig Montgomery, executive director of the Pioneer Square Neighborhood Association.
Still, there are hopes revelers will come to the historic neighborhood tonight to celebrate the event that in years past drew thousands of people.

Tuesdays are Muppet Days
