Finding Peace at the War Room

osunlade_painting2.jpgThinking of the Red Bull Music Academy still puts a smile on Seattlest's face. While almost overwhelming with the amount of talent that came through, the fact that all of that great music came through Seattle is still mindblowing. The event left an impact on the scene too, with some people deciding to move to the area, and others ensuring that their tour plans bring them back through the Emerald City.

Osunlade's appearance at tonight's edition of the Gettin' _______* monthly at the War Room should build on the local reputation he built during the RBMA. Seattlest only managed to catch him at the ArRange afterparty, and even then we couldn't give our full attention, since we were too filled with anticipation for Underground Resistance. This time around, all of our energy can be focused on Osunlade.

The most widely-known of Osunlade's works are unlikely to be heard tonight. He cut his teeth as a major-label producer, working with Patti Labelle, Lauryn Hill, and even Gerardo ("Rico Suave" anyone?), even enjoying a stint at Sesame Street (no, really). Since 1999, he's shifted his focus to house music, and has a well-deserved reputation as both producer and remixer of deep, soulful house. He has not gone completely underground however, collaborating with artists ranging from 4 Hero and Masters at Work to Zero 7 and Radiohead. An ordained priest in the African religion of Ifa, Osunlade productions and DJ sets are filled with an uplifting quality, motivating spirits as well as bodies.
