Rat City Roller Road Trip

We're scum. We're lazy, TV watching Ameri-trash. We follow mainstream sports and the off-year Olympics, but we haven't supported our local alternative sports entertainment franchise Rat City Roller Girls by attending an event yet. What the hell is wrong with us? Seriously? We've marked every date on both our paper calendar hanging in the kitchen and in our iCalendar and it hasn't helped. It's always the night we have dinner plans or the night we had set aside for crushing female empowerment, athletic ability, the arts and creativity with the hammer of our non-attendance.

On one of those nights we saw the roller derby girls from Austin on TV, though, and despite a great number of things it was awesome. The girls were awesome, the spectacle was awesome, the televised portrayal bounced from awesome to what you would expect from Big TV. Austin aside, Big Media continues to take note of the derby women this week when the Seattle Times follows the RCRG on a road trip. Should be fun. In the meantime check out this flickr gallery of the Roller Girls' recent fund raiser for said road trip. Looks like March, 4, in Everett will be our next chance to redeem ourselves locally.

Damn I can't wait to take my girlfreind to the Everett show.

It sort of sucks that the Seattle Roller Girl groups do not have a sloped track.

I think I should put together a proposal package to use $ +170 Mil of the state taxpayers money to bring the Rat City Rollergirl roller derby league to Kitsap County. I mean if people can believe that wasting large amounts of public money on Nascar is an actual non insane proposal than my idea to have the state pay me $ +170 Mil of the state taxpayers money for a Rollergirl proposal should be feasible. Hell there is a roller rink in Bremerton so it would just be a simple rezoning expansion. Rollergirls is the fasting growing sport in reality TV today.

Or are the pro-pork for Nascar crown to “elite” for rollergirls?

Screw kitsap - Let's ship the sonics out and renovate key arena into sloped track roller dome.

Well in case you were sleeping, RCRG is a part of the Woman's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA), which means that we are flat track and we are committed to staying flat track. I could go into what that all means but apparently you aren't to hip on what we have been trying to do which is different from the "reality" tv banked track leagues.

Lest I say any more, you just need to come to a bout and experience it. Our fans are truly amazing and they make us want to work even harder at this sport. If you came to Tucson this past weekend you would know how awesome our fans are!

See ya Saturday!
