Picture the scene: Seattlest staff hunched over our Underwoods, trying to crank out a Pulitzer piece before deadline, the offices wreathed in Dan's editorial smoke -- and the phone rings. "Hello? Hello! Hold the line!" It's the local theaters, the Rep and Intiman, begging for attention. Actors! So needy.
As we mentioned earlier, the late August Wilson's final play in his ten-cycle series, Radio Golf, is playing through February 18 at the Rep. At 6:30pm on Monday, February 13, the Rep is holding a celebration of "the art and language of August Wilson," which we bring to your attention in part because it's free and we suspect the Seattlest audience of being freeloading August fans just like us.
The evening will feature artists from Radio Golf, and other special guests... Each of Mr. Wilson’s ten plays will be represented by actors such as Charlayne Woodard, Cynthia Jones, Chic Street Man, Derrick Sanders, Ruben Santiago Hudson, Lisa Estridge, Reggie Jackson, Keith Randolph Smith, and Stephen McKinley Henderson.
Meanwhile, the plucky staff of the Intiman, who have to stare out their office windows every day at the Bagley Wright competition, are giving you until Saturday, June 10, to save up to attend their 2006 Gala, “An Evening with Adam Guettel and Friends." The Gala will include songs from The Light in the Piazza performed by Adam Guettel, the musical’s composer and lyricist.
The Light in the Piazza had its world premiere at Intiman Theatre in 2003 and Seattlest was there. As we recall, it was a warm summer evening. We thought it was pretty good, so we weren't surprised when it moved to Broadway and was honored with six 2005 Tony Awards. Tickets for the Gala shindig go from $300-$750, so we mention it for the benefit of (heretofore unknown to us) Seattlest readers who consider themselves freaking de Medicis. Full info here.
