Wacky Super Bowl Bets

betting.jpgFeeling lucky? The Super Bowl's the time to enlarge your wallet by beating the bookmakers. You can bet on practically anything about the game.

To wit:

Who will be the first offensive lineman called for a holding penalty? The Hawks' Sean Locklear is the favorite, at 11/2.

What player will have the longest single reception in the game? Darrell Jackson is the favorite, at 7/2, but the value bet is Joe Jurevicius at 8/1.

Who will launch the longest punt? The oddsmakers consider the Hawks' Tom Rouen the most explosive leg--you'll have to bet $125 to win $100 if you think he'll kick it the farthest on fourth down.

How about the over/unders? For total tackles+sacks+interceptions for Lofa Tatupu, the over/under is 6.5. For longest rush by Shaun Alexander, the over/under is 19 yards. For total rushing yards by Alexander, the over/under is 89.5 (for Jerome Bettis, the over/under is 39.5).

And then there's the crazy parlays. What will be higher--Kobe Bryant's total points on Feb 4th vs. New Orleans, or the total points scored in the Super Bowl the next day? If you take Kobe, you get 5.5 points. Rather bet on the Clippers? You can pick whether you think Sam Cassell will have more assists on Sunday than the Hawks' Leroy Hill has tackles. Or whether the Raptors' Chris Bosh will score more points than Matt Hasselbeck completes passes.

Or you can just bet on the game. Currently the Steelers are 4.5 point favorites. If you'd rather bet the money line, betting $100 on the Hawks will win you $160.

Then again, maybe the smart action will be on the Lingerie Bowl. Who could resist betting on how many lingerie models William "The Refrigerator" Perry will carry on his back into the end zone (four or more models is at 10/1).
