Stalk of the Town--Super Bowl Edition
There's one day this weekend that counts--Sunday, when the Seahawks play in the Super Bowl for the first and assuredly only time. How will Seattlest spend that glorious day?
Just as they watched Steve Largent break the all-time consecutive-games-with-a-catch streak together, on October 6th, 1986, David S. and Seth will be watching the Super Bowl together. Expect lots of knocking on wood, screaming at things that aren't there, speed dialing Comcast, and, if the Hawks should win, pure, innocent, wonderful, well-deserved joy.
Susan: In a large green house on Phinney Ridge with a gang of football folk. She is bringing two large bags of Ruffles sour cream and cheddar potato chips to the party and predicts she will eat one full bag of chips herself.
Margaret will be watching the Super Bowl with a bunch of gays and straight girls. Fabulous food, fabulous drinks, fabulous football. It's the only time of year , she says, when you can mix melted Velveeta with canned chili and call it "delicious."
Michael vB is tossing a coin between a friend's 37" HDTV in Mountlake and Central Cinema's free showing of the game on their movie screen with pizza and beer service. Mmmm beerpizza. We'll let you know as soon as the coin is flipped.
Editor Dan will be at a friend's near Gasworks, alternately watching people watch the game and staring out over the city while humming the super bowl shuffle to himself and stabbing pins into a tiny Ron Rivera doll.
There's a Super Bowl party at Audrey's place, primarily so that her roommate can prepare all kinds of food: mini sausages in the crock pot, spinach dip, a gorgonzola cheeseball, mayhap that new Pizza Hut pizza.
James will TiVo the Super Bowl so that he can watch the ads later. During the game, he'll wander the streets of Seattle reenacting the early sequences of 28 Days Later. Maybe he'll even skateboard through the viaduct. He also thinks that Sunday afternoon might be an excellent time to visit Pike Place Market without using an imposing walking stick.
Donte is going to a friend's house for a potluck thing, where he's more excited about the food than the game. He's also really curious to see if Seattle is a town that will riot at the success (or lack thereof) of a local sports team.
