Rob Zverina's personal photo-blog turned 8 years old on Tuesday. The proud papa waxed nostalgic with a link to his first web page (not to be confused with the actual first Picture of the Day) in his unfortunately titled "Picture of the Day" email, which does not actually come out every day:
Actually, the anniversary of PoD means more to me than my own birthday -- it seems somehow more significant. Maybe because I chose to start the site, whereas being born was a no-brainer.
Seattlest didnt get hip to the PoD until 2001 when a coworker provided an introduction to the freakishly tall artist at a film sharing party at his cluttered home in Fremont, one of the last vestiges of old-school Fremont back when it was still somewhat cool, before the so-called "center of the universe" became what it is today. He was later spotted in the role of a "john" in a weird performance art piece where a "prostitute" worked the corner of Denny and Westlake while the audience in the gallery watched from the window, and he had one of the more interesting installations at the "Import/Export" show at Consolidated in 2004.
All 8 years of (semi)daily pictures (with a hiatus here or there apparently in 2003) are available on the site's chronological index. In recent times, Zverina has shared images from his day job working salvage and demolition for RE-Store, thus providing our man with choice kodak moments as well as a platform to spout off on his crackpot Zen and environmentalist screeds.
You can subscribe to PoD here and enjoy it while you can before the Emperor takes away the internets.
