While Seahawk fans were cheering on the home team and celebrating a trip to the most Super of Bowls yesterday a nearby tug boat gave up on life and sank. The 101' Island Brave went down in 30' of water near the mouth of the Duwamish on the west side of Harbor Island with 20,000 gallons of diesel fuel and nearly pulled another tug down with it. We're guessing the accident was not a result of marauding Seahawks fans, although if it's painted blue and green with "12"s all over it when they raise it we'll let you know.
From the P-I:
The Island Brave was carrying more than 20,000 gallons of diesel in its fuel tanks when it went under. Some of the fuel had leaked before the company's divers could get the tanks sealed, said David Zanzig, port captain for Island Tug & Barge. It was unclear how much fuel had leaked, but it was a small amount, Coast Guard Petty Officer Kurt Fredrickson said. The spill was contained by booms that the company put in the water shortly after the incident, he said.
Apparently when a hundred-foot boat sinks in 30' of water just off Harbor Island you don't write it off as sunk. Time to bring that thing back up! If you're on a ferry today or otherwise traveling on Elliot Bay make sure to squint in that direction to see if you can catch Island Tug & Barge Co. trying to reanimate their fallen soldier

Tuesdays are Muppet Days

I originally posted this with a link to the wrong Island Tug & Barge. Apparently there's another one in Canadia with the same name and a boat also named the "Island Brave" which is completely fine and unsunk if you were concerned.
