Survivor-Like Process for the Council Is Like Survivor
Sorry whitey, your days of running the city are over. The Seattle City Council has narrowed the list of contenders to replace retiring Jim Compton from 98 to 14, and there ain't a cracker among them.
The candidates include former chair of the 43rd LD Dems Javier Valdez, King County Labor Council organizer Verlene Jones, and a real estate agent named Daryl Smith.
Former executive director of Pacifica Radio Network and current HUD employee Sharon Maeda was the only candidate to receive a vote from every member of the council.
Through Tuesday the council will interview the 14 finalists; from there six finalists will be chosen. The winner is expected be announced at the end of the month.
If this process reminds you of a certain TV phenomenon, well then judging from these headlines you should get yourself a press hat and apply for a job at one of the local newspapers.
Seattle P -I: City Council version of 'Survivor' down to 14
This is the second Survivor reference on this story by the P-I in as many
articles. We get it, you love Survivor.
Seattle Times: Reality TV can't match civic wannabes
Uh, Seattle Times—yes it can, considering that about 17 people are paying attention to this council story while American Idol will undoubtedly be watched by millions of easily entertained Americans. However, we do agree that a neighborhood activist talking about how much they love helping people is harder to watch than a guy eating a monkey's nutsack.
