Still Raving After All These Years
Last week Seattlest went to a rave at the never-mentioned Aristocrats. While not quite a resolution for the new year, we're certainly trying to experience some new things, musically and otherwise. It wasn't the most attended party in history, but it was fun to hear some gritty house and ghettotech on a club system and to see that the younguns are still out there for their beat marathons, despite the same claims that plague the rock scene. Seattlest's days of 12 hour parties are long over except for a few wonderful yet exhausting exceptions, but it's good to know that they're still happening.
For many, this weekend's appearance of Dan Bell will remind them of their long-gone raving days. The Berlin by way of Detroit producer/DJ's DBX alterego produced some of the tracks that acted as part of their electronic music introductions, most notably "Losing Control." He is held up as a pioneer of the minimal movement, creating tracks where the devil is in the details. His productions and sets lean toward the more house-y end of the spectrum tempo-wise, but still maintain their techno identity.
Dan Bell will be bringing his particular brand of techno to Krakt, a fitting setting since this monthly is doing its best to remind Seattlites that techno is as much for the body as it is for the head. With a crowd reminded of their past, the evening should be filled with the spirit and energy of a rave, but will forego the outfits and lightshows. Consider it a rave for grownups. With (legal) booze.
