Sports Contest Used As Pretext for Inter-Municipal Sniping

Tony_Kornheiser.jpgTony Kornheiser, who languished for years as a poor man's Dave Barry until ESPN gave him a sports talk show, has returned to his roots and written a painfully unfunny column denigrating the city of Seattle, in advance of Saturday's Hawks/Skins playoff rumble.

Kornheiser, you see, is a D.C. native, and since D.C.'s team is playing Seattle's team, of course the first thing that a sane person like Kornheiser thinks to do is insult Seattle and the Seahawks. This has never made much sense to us, this idea of turning a professional sporting contest into a battle for supremacy between municipalities. But maybe Kornheiser just wanted a chance to use his keen wit. Such as:

What's Seattle got going for it anyway? It rains all the time there. Stay more than three days and mold begins to form on your feet.

MOLD! Hah! You know, we never thought of it before, but Seattle IS rainy. Tony Kornheiser, you point out the little, unseen foibles that make life unique....What a pratt.

There are few things easier than making a "Seattle is rainy" joke. This girl, for one. Also, insulting Tony Kornheiser's writing.

It's almost too easy. So we will pass the baton. For more Kornheiser retorting, read the Times' Steve Kelley, and Brooklyn-based blogger Days.
