Getting Old Sucks

Face it, you're getting old. Despite your best efforts, Father Time and Mother Nature are doing a number on your body, mind, and soul. You wake up to achey joints, you're worried about your 401k, and you spend your days working for "The Man" instead of following your dreams. So you go to the gym (or at least say you will) realizing it's a losing battle, read books to stay sharp, and try to not admit that you really don't get "that noise that the kids are into these days." Where did it all go wrong?
You remember your youth, those halcyon days of carefree fun and wacky misadventures. Deep down you also know your memories are wrong, and that it was far more angst and ennui than mirth and merriment. Somehow you survived, and became the Adult you are now, looking back at an idealized past that never was.
No, we're not trying to depress you at the start of your weekend. Rather, we want you to take a look at a new art project that's been in the works since last January. The Cult of Youth provides an avenue for Seattle's young'uns to flex their artistic muscles, with their efforts culminating in a tri-annual journal. Curated by local artist Marianne Goldin, the goal of the Cult of Youth is to provide an avenue for works by the underserved youth market, with future plans to expand into education and service projects.
The release party of Volume One of the Cult of Youth Reader coincides tonight at Fremont Coffee with the opening of "This is Dedicated to the One I Like" a solo art show of Goldin's paper works inspired by the C.O.Y. project. After that, the Reader will be available in finer local bookstores, as well as in online form. While you may not be as young as you used to be, you can help support those that don't yet realize they're in some of their best days. Remember, the children are our future. And if how they are now is any indication, the future is going to be filled with lots of eyeliner and angular haircuts.
