City Council Applications Due on Friday
Don't wait until the last possible day to apply for the soon-to-be vacant seat on the City Council. Applications are due on Friday, but you know it's going to be crazy, so get yours in now.
Hundreds (give or take an "s") are expected to apply. So far...well, as of the 27th of December (cut us some slack, it was the holidays--yeah, we said it) ten concerned citizens have stepped forward. Including last year's council candidate Angel Bolanos, who, if chosen, vows to stand up to Mayor Sanders.
The seat is being vacated because current council member Jim Compton wants to go to Romania and Egypt to teach and write. Something he neglected to mention he might do when he ran for re-election two years ago.
After the applications have been turned in, the council will then have 20 days to review them, interview the candidates, and vote (in public) on a new member. The first candidate to five council votes wins, and will get to run for their seat in a special election this fall and, providing they win in November, next fall when their seat is up.
