Sonics Replace Weiss, We Replace Sonics

Sonics.jpgBefuddled Bob Weiss, whose sideline body language reminded us of overwhelmed Husky coach Keith Gilbertson, is gone, replaced by Bob Hill. Hill's last team, the 2002-03 Fordham University Rams, posted a 2-26 record (though they did nearly knock off then #25 Dayton). Hill is a safe and underwhelming choice--just like Weiss was.

Times columnist Steve Kelley rips Sonic president Wally Walker a new one here.

Times reporter Percy Allen asks "Who is Bob Hill?" here. You won't like the answer.

The Times recaps the Weiss era here.

KJR sports talker David Locke compares the Sonics to Wile E. Coyote. Figure out why (we couldn't) here.

P-I columnist Art Theil explains that Weiss was the victim of a "screw job" here.

Over at Supersonic Soul, they called it.

We don't have much faith that Hill will turn the Sonics around.Sp. we are turning our attentions away from the NBA, and to the simple pleasures of local high school basketball. Last night, we accompanied eight friends to Old Lincoln High, where the dear old alma mater pulled out a last second win over Roosevelt.

Three players of note were on the floor. Garfield's Justynn Hammond, an undersized post player with great hands, good moves around the basket, and no fear. Aaron Dotson, a 6'3" sweet-shooting freshman guard, led Garfield with 15 points (mostly on treys from the wing). Roosevelt, unfortunately, didn't provide a roster, but #5 looked good.

Word to the wise--if you go see a game at Old Lincoln High, bring a coat. They keep it at about 55.
