Death Cab Swallowed By California
We can continue giving Death Cab hometown welcomes when they breeze through town, but we should keep in mind that it only takes one certain television appearance to give them a new home in the eyes of the outside world. Gibbard and co are taking their show across the pond in February and when people report on this there's no mention of "trading the soggy streets of Seattle for the soggy streets of London." Instead we get this from Pitchfork:
In February, Ben Gibbard & co. will trade Orange Country in for the cultured foreign lifestyle most emo kids only dream of. Before they head off on the European trek, however, Death Cab will wrap up the old year in America with a couple of radio station 'Ho-fest performances, as well as a slot at Los Angeles' Giant Village Festival on December 31.
We have no idea why we're so sensitive to this kind of thing and we're completely putting aside the very reasonable view that Death Cab For Cutie is actually a Bellingham band, but to have Pacific Northwest musicians known to the world as the guys that that guy on the OC likes... It just hurts. We'll pretend it doesn't, though, if anyone asks us while we're out of town. Damn you, OC.
Anyway, congrats to them on the Grammy nomination and we hope they have fun overseas. Death Cab, send Seattle a postcard from the Peach Pit someday.
