-Fans and admirers gathered at the grave of Bruce Lee on Sunday to honor what would have been his 65th birthday. There may be four or five residents of Seattle who still aren't aware that Bruce Lee is buried here. Now you know.
-Doh! The DOJ approved the "merger" of the Seattle Weekly's owner Village Voice Media with New Times Media.
-We think we once heard Rick Steves say that passport ownership in Seattle is among the highest in the nation. True or one of our regional delusions of worldliness? Regardless, WA and BC officials are coming out against proposals to require passport checks at the border. -Snow is predicted for tomorrow but it doesn't seem quite cold enough to send us to Queen Anne with our snowboards. More likely is some spots of slop in the morning getting washed away by afternoon rain.

Around The -Ists This Week

Isn't the current standard a passport or birth certificate to make a run for the (northern) border? I think that the days of driver license only have passed.
Actually, US and Canadian citizens are still not required to have a passport when crossing the border, though a passport (even an expired one) or a birth certificate is "highly recommended" as a supplement to your driver's license. That is code for "We'll let you through but we might have to put the gloves on first." Full details here.
My passport expired this year, and while I've sat on my hands not renewing it (finally did last week), I've cruised through the CA border with my license and birth certificate. The one time I didn't have my birth certificate, all I got was a bit of a raised eyebrow but they let me through nonetheless.
While I prefer my travel glove-free, that's good to know. A friend of mine has been shy of crossing the border ever since her passport expired. That link should help her overcome her fear of impromptu Canada adventures.
