Husky Stadium Feeling Its Years

mini-husky101.jpg

The Huskies have apparently stunk up their digs in North Seattle to such a degree that the athletic department has started working towards renovating the stadium. It is important, of course, that there be shiny new luxury boxes to view the triumph from when (and if) the team gets back on track. HOK Sport is currently discussing new designs with the university.

From the UW Daily:

An 11,475-seat upper deck to encompass the west end zone; a redesigned lower bowl closer to the action and fitted with seatbacks; premier suites, loge boxes and club seats -- these are just a few of the options on the table for the master renovation of Husky Stadium.

Seat backs? Ditch the track? Lower the playing field? Keep the alumni out of the rain? What, if anything, needs to be done to Husky Stadium?

Oh, and apparently the team dropped some kind of fruit cup game this weekend.

Actually Husky Stadium is the one stadium that state money should be spent on, since it's owned and operated by the state. Of course, that state money can probably come from the funds that the state agency entitled the Universiy of Washington Athletic Department has collected over the years, with some help from the rest of the state if the case can be legitimately made that they can't afford to pay it all.

As for what changes should be made, the #1 change that should not be made is moving the student section. Having seen other schools where the students are given the worst seats it detracts from the atmosphere, and misses the point that college athletics is about the college, the students should have the best seats, which they do right now at Husky Stadium.

  • "if anything, needs to be done to Husky Stadium?"

How about 100% privite finacing and not a dime from state public money.
