Stalk of the Town
When this week began, wrestler Eddie Guerrero and TV pioneer Ralph Edwards were both alive. No one outside Steel Country had heard of Rep. John Murtha, and Bob Woodward still had credibility. Next week is really only three days, so probably nothing will happen. Thus, we at Seattlest intend to enjoy ourselves over the weekend.
Seth's going to the Ballard JazzWalk tonight. Two performers he's looking forward to seeing: Dawn Clement, an inventive young pianist, playing with her trio at Hattie's Hat, and former UW student Rob "Smooth" Davis, a saxophonist with a tone to die for. He's playing at Portalis wine shop. On Saturday, Seth will do his Christmas shopping at the Festival of Hope, an international crafts fair at Seattle's Keystone Congregational Church. Proceeds go to help end third-world hunger. He's no commie lefty do-gooder, but he does what he can.
David S. is visiting the Bay Area, looking at a big ball of fire in the sky and enjoying a feeling the locals call "warmth." Saturday he's going to the "Big Game," Cal vs. Stanford.
Don's in the Bay Area too, but he's going to be inside, at the Cartoon Art (or sequential graphic art, if you prefer) Museum.
Also out of town--Margaret, who is bridesmaiding in Boston.
Back in the Emerald City, Matt Silvie will be watching his favorite television program.
New father James intends to try out the "dinner at a nice restaurant with an infant" game. Likely candidates for the unusually early dinner: Lola, Restaurant Zoe, or Lark. (No need to avoid those restaurants tonight--James promises to take his daughter outside if she cries. He's no barbarian.)
It's a slower than usual weekend for Courtney. Tonight it's 25 for 25 for dinner, then going to see Walk the Line. RIP Johnny. Saturday night she’ll be hitting the New Pornographers and quaffing a few pints of Snow Cap at the second “Get Snowed In” party at Pyramid. Sunday, mountain biking and rock climbing out near Enumclaw.
Gina's a little under the weather (in Seattle, aren't we all? Ha!) so she'll be staying in and watching cinema: Apres Vous and Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants.
Audrey is also ill, but will not be deterred from attending CHAC for the opening night gala of the play Cloud Tectonics or taking advantage of 25 for $25 restaurant action.
Michael will be at his traditional weekend post--an overstuffed chair at the back of the Victrola. He'll be reading A Conspiracy of Fools and A Problem from Hell.
For Donte: Larry Heard at the Trinity on Friday night, and Daz-I-Kue spinning at the Baltic Room on Saturday. During the rest of the weekend, armed with his wits, a sword and a bow, he'll take a majestic journey through ancient lands to seek out and destroy gigantic mythical beasts.
Susan's playing cards--Heck or Progressive Rummy--on Friday, watching Ohio State vs. Michigan Saturday afternoon, seeing Death Cab for Cutie on Saturday night. Sunday--gutter repair and pruning.
