Cougars Win Space Needle
Apple Cup week in Seattle means one thing: really crappy weather (rimshot...crickets).
But there is also a football game, and this year is no exception. On Saturday at Husky Stadium the 2-8 Huskies will take on the 3-7 Cougars, in what is sure to go down as an official NCAA game. The Cougars, however, have already claimed the first victory of the week by out raising Husky alumni and winning the Space Needle Challenge.
For those of you unaware of this competition it worked a little like this-- in the wake of Hurricane Katrina the Space Needle magically came to life and challenged U-Dub and Wazzu alumni to a contest. The school that raised the most money for those in the Gulf Coast on a daily basis, would get to fly their flag atop of the pointy part for twenty-four hours. Since Wazzu Alumni raised the most money overall the top part area is being painyed crimson and gray. If neither school raised any money, then the Space Needle would have been burned down and given to the Chinese.
Overall, nearly $165,000 was raised for Habitat for Humanity, with a small portion of the proceeds going to former FEMA Head Mike Brown for use at Nordstrom.
