Q&A Seattlest: Space Needle Edition

needle.GIFQ: Why was there a Washington State Cougars flag flying above the Space Needle yesterday? And a Husky flag today?

A: Because of a contest to raise money for Hurricane Katrina relief. The school's alumni who donate the most money to Habitat for Humanity each day get to see their school's flag flying above the city. It's part of the buildup to the Apple Cup, the football game between the state rivals, played annually the Saturday before Thanksgiving.

Q: In the donation contest, who has won the most so far?

A: The Cougars, five days to two.

Q: But, wait, aren't there way more Husky alums than Cougar alums?

A: Yes. Currently there are about 50,000 students at the UW, and about 25,000 at Wazzu. Historically, the UW has been by far the bigger school.

Q: So despite being outnumbered about two to one, Cougar alumni are donating more! They must be very generous!

A: That, or they have a massive inferiority complex that they hope to sate by winning a ridiculous contest.

Q: Yeah, that's possible. Well, at least the money's going to a good cause.

A: True dat. Nearly $90,000 has been raised so far. Donate here.

regarding the Seattle Q&A: Space Needle

I am not quite sure why your website would allow or want a posting that refers to a contest to

raise money to Hurricane Katrina victims as “a ridiculous contest” or for that matter referring to

the winners of the contest as having “a massive superiority complex”. These statements make

your website sound like insensitive assholes and over shadows the purpose of the contest in the

first place. The Q&A is obviously bias to the University of Washington and distorts what is

    Washington State Cougar pride.

It is universally known that everyone in the Pacific Northwest hates the Huskies and this posting

is yet another example of why.
