Local sports fans, let's just pretend that Saturday never happened and turn our attentions to the happy events of Sunday.
The Seahawks dominated another NFC opponent, beating Arizona 33-19. Once again, the team is generating excitement--our novelist friend called from New York City to hear a description of Shawn Alexander's 88-yard touchdown run, the longest in team history, and to fantasize about a long run through the playoffs.
Also on Sunday, the Husky men's basketball team demolished the roundballers from Vancouver, B.C.'s Simon Fraser University. That Canucky institution has a funny nickname for their athletic teams, hence, our favorite headline of the year. One slightly important event of this game--freshman center Joe Wolfinger, widely expected to redshirt, could have played himself onto the team with a good performance during Sunday's exhibition. He scored 0 points in 10 minutes. You make the call.
And the Husky women won convincingly in their exhibition opener against Baden Sports, an amateur team comprised of local ex-collegians. Freshman phenom Heidi McNeill played 22 minutes in the game and, according to the Times, "recieved solid reviews."
