Sonics Lose Opener: The season got off to rather poor start, after the Sonics did everything wrong in the final few minutes of last night's opener, and lost to the Los Angeles Clippers of Anaheim 101-93. Not very promising, it was of course only the first of 82 games, and last year the Sonics started their season by getting blown away by the same Clipper squad. Steve Kelley, however, says it is time to panic.
Husky Women Look for Revenge: After losing in last year's Final Four the UW Volleyball team has stormed though this year with a 20-0 record, and are ranked number two in the country. Tonight they take on number four Stanford, the team that not only knocked them out of the Final Four last year, but also got the promotion at work the Huskies thought they were a shoo-in for (they had even already had business cards made). On Saturday they will face number 18 Cal-Berkeley who leads the Pac-10 in crying about social injustice and having no sense of humor. Buy Tickets.
Mariners Re-sign Everyday Yesterday: The Mariners have picked the option of closer Edie Guardado, in a move that delighted but surprised the pitcher. Guardado will be pitching the ninth inning for the team next year, which most fans will miss because they will be walking back to their car screaming.
Rainer Beach Down In NYC: The New York Knicks are a basketball team on the east coast. Rainer Beach is a school in Seattle. The two haven't contributed much to each other until now. The Knicks currently have two Rainer Beach graduates on their roster, something that brings joy to our mind, and has made us follow the Knicks a little closer.Especially since one of those players is former Husky stand out Nate Robinson. Rainer Beach also has another alum in the NBA, Doug Christe, whose relationship with his wife makes him a walking joke. For those who like to watch Rainer Beach players but want to see them in the blue and orange of the Vikings, they will take on O'Dea for the Metro football championship tonight at Memorial Stadium. Hamlin Out for the Year: Every Friday night for the past five years we have been going to Club Trinity in Pioneer Square to dance in the weekend. Yet tomorrow night there will be less joy in our box-step after the news that Seahawks safety Kenny Hamlin is out for the season, and maybe longer, because of head injuries he sustained following a fight outside another Pioneer Square establishment.
That's sports and now Trent Cockmore with the Action 5 weather.
