Pound Pup of the Week: Meet Zinger

It's the last day of October, Adopt-a-Shelter-Dog Month, and in support of such a noble cause, Seattlest is pleased to present you with our Pound Pup of the Week...along with our pet-ad translator.

Meet Zinger, a nine-month-old lab mix.

This cute black pup "gets along with everybody"..."No children under 5 years." Hard to tell if this is boilerplate language or if Zinger has zinged some little ones.

Zinger is "charming and loves to cuddle" and is "ready for some basic training."

The need for a fenced yard is listed as "MANDATORY." Might Zinger be better named Houdini?

But seriously, she looks like a sweetie, a nice size, a happy smile, and a breed mix that usually creates fantastic dogs.

Zinger is currently in foster care under the aegis of an organization called Rescue Every Dog. This all-volunteer organization rescues adoptable dogs from rural shelters and fosters them until a forever home can be found. RED dogs are "pricier" than their government-sponsored compatriots (that is, the adoption fee is higher), and the screening process seems a bit more intense.

If you're interested in adopting a dog (or cat, or whatever sort of petlike animal), try our local animal shelters: the Seattle Animal Shelter on 15th Ave NW (near Utilikilts) or the King County Humane Society (right off 90 in Bellevue). You can also pre-shop at Petfinder, though we are not responsible for obsessive use of this site.

October may be over, but adopting a shelter dog is a good idea any month of the year.
